Kuto Besak Fort is one of the tourist attractions in the form of historical buildings in Palembang. The location of this place is on Sultan Mahmud Badarudin Street, 19 Ilir, or more specifically on the riverside of the Musi River. To enter this place, no need to worry about the entrance ticket. You just pay for parking if you bring your own vehicle. Also, this place is open all the time (24 hours).
Historically, Kuto Besak Fort Palembang is a palace building that in the XVIII century became the center of the Palembang Sultanate. Fort Kuto Besak Palembang was started to be built in 1780. Now, Fort Kuto Besak Palembang is arranged by the government by making it a plaza aka the square that tourists can use to spend time there.
There are several things you can do here:
1. Take pictures
The most famous photo spot in Kuto Besak Fort is the Belido Fish Monument. It's not complete if you haven't taken a photo with this monument if you visit. The monument which is shaped like a Belido Fish was inaugurated by the Mayor of Palembang, Harnojoyo together with the President Director of PT Bukit Asam, Arviyan Arifin, on February 11, 2018. Having a solid silver color, the Belido Fish Monument at certain hours will shoot water from its mouth towards the Musi River. As an icon that Belido fish are fish whose natural habitat comes from the Musi river, Belido fish are very instrumental in the development of Palembang's typical food business. For this reason, it is enshrined in the form of a monument.
Then, you can take pictures directly with the Ampera Bridge as a landmark of the Palembang city which stretches for a long time that separates the Ulu and Ilir areas.
2. Take a walk in the square
In the square, you can take a walk and enjoy the atmosphere of the crowds of people and the suburbs of Palembang. It would be nice if you enjoy the atmosphere at night. Also, at night, there are many street food vendors so you can enjoy the food there.
3. See the Musi River Directly
You can see directly the ships that often pass by and the scenery on the other side of the river. In addition, you can take a boat just to feel sailing on the Musi river or from here you can also go to the Pulo Kemaro (Kemaro Island). To ride the boat, you need to spend IDR 50,000.
4. Visiting nearby attractions
There are many attractions close to Kuto Besak Fort and you can reach them just on foot, such as the Mahmud Badaruddin Museum and MONPERA which is behind Fort Kuto Besak or before going to Fort Kuto Besak we can see the two places first, MONPERA and then the museum.
