On this occasion, I visited a tourist attraction with an educational nuance, Palembang Bird Park. The location of this place is in the OPI Mall Complex area, next to OPI Waterfun, Governor H.A. Bastari Street, Jakabaring. Palembang Bird Park is open every day with different operating hours. Monday-Friday, open from 10.00-18.00 and Saturday-Sunday, open from 9.00-18.00. This visit, I was just to see what animals were there, but in this post I will only tell you some types of birds.
EMU
The first picture is an Emu bird. Emu (Dromaius novaehollandiae) is the largest bird from Australia, and the second largest flightless bird in the world, after its ratit brother, the ostrich. Emu birds have soft brown feathers and can reach a height of 2 (two) meters and weigh 45 kilograms. This bird is a wandering animal, because it has unusual calf muscles so that they can travel at a speed of 50 km / h. Therefore, they can travel long distances in search of food that includes a variety of plants and insects. In addition, this bird is a reliable swimmer and likes to soak in the water. This bird also has other characteristics, the eggs are dark green and black, work together even though the animals, the eggs are incubated by the male, brown on a white basis.
Actually, how to care Emu is pretty similiar with ostrich because they have similiarites too. So, you have to always keep the cage clean so they do not get sick and get infected with bacteria, feeding must be done three times a day and the feed is only grass and chicken which is sometimes mixed, then always check if there are eggs that come out so that can be directly treated in the incubator.
OSTRICH
Next is Ostrich. The ostrich (Struthio camelus) is the largest and flightless bird in the world. This bird comes from Africa. Emu and Ostrich have similarities overall, but the Emu bird is smaller than the Ostrich (about 2.5 meters high and weighs 100-120 kilograms), moreover this bird has a speed of up to 70 km/hour . The Emu has three toes while the Ostrich has two toes. The ostrich is a warm-blooded animal, has wings and a body covered with feathers. The beak is toothless and pointed. Ostriches are famous for social nesting, where several female birds will lay eggs in one nest, to be incubated by the female during the day and the male at night. The ostrich egg is the largest egg of all living birds. Ostriches are omnivores because they eat leaves, flowers, insects and small animals.
How to care for this ostrich is same like what I said before about Emu bird, because you have to always keep the cage clean so they do not get sick and get infected with bacteria, feeding must be done three times a day and the feed is only grass and chicken which is sometimes mixed, then always check if there are eggs that come out so that can be directly treated in the incubator.
WHITE COCKATOO
Then, this is a white cockatoo. The white cockatoo or in scientific name Cacatua alba is a medium-sized bird, with a length of about 46 cm. The body weight of this bird is about 550 grams with a wingspan of about 50 to 62 cm, from the genus Cacatua. This bird is almost all white feathers. On his head there is a large white crest that can be raised. The white cockatoo's distribution area is in the North Maluku islands. In the wild, they spend most of their time looking for food, such as nuts, coconuts, and seeds. But to be kept as pets, the ideal food for this bird should consist of a variety of vegetables, grains, fruit, and nuts.
How to care this white cockatoo can be done starting from not confining it in a narrow cage and making sure there is a perch made of hard wood but with a soft texture. Then, it is recommended to be bathed every three days so that the fur is shiny and well maintained by watering it like artificial rain.
SUN CONURE
Next you can see, the type of bird that has a beautiful feather color. This is the Sun Conure bird. Sun conure is a type of parrot (True parrot) with the Latin name Aratinga solstitialis which is medium size, has a bright color and comes from South America. The color of the fur is dominated by golden yellow, bluish-green wing tips and orange gradations from the face to the abdomen near the tail. This bird has a body length of up to 30 cm and weighs about 100-200 grams. Sun conures are playful birds, love tricks because they are smart, interactive and easy to train. As long as the bird is cared for properly, the Sun conure is a loving bird and loves to be pampered with tenderness. Basically, Sun conures eat a diet fruits, flowers, berries, seeds, nuts and insects.
How to care for this bird is almost the same as the previous cockatoo, such as providing a large cage and perch. Then the placement of the cage is not in direct contact with the sun because they feel comfortable at room temperature (21-27 Celcius Degree).
OWL
Then the last one is the Owl. This owl is a type of Beluk Ketupa or in English name is Buffy Fish-Owl. Buffy Fish is a medium-sized owl with a body length of about 40 to 48 cm with a wingspan of about 69 to 70 cm and a tail length of about 16 to 18 cm. The ideal body weight of the Buffy outs is around 1028 to 2100 grams and the female outs is heavier. Yellowish brown in color with conspicuous ear tufts. This bird has very soft feathers, a short tail, a large and round head. His big eyes pointed forward. Its beak is hooked and its claws are sharp. Owls in the middle of the night incessantly let out screams from their burrows, and owls let out screams while flying around the nest. The distribution areas of the Buffy Fish-Owl include the southern part of Burma, Peninsular Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Riau Islands, Sumatra, Bangka, Belitung, Java, Bali and Kalimantan. This bird is a type of Carnivore. The food of the Buffy Fish-Owl in the wild includes fish, reptiles, frogs, small mammals, and insects. Sometimes they also prey on bats, and it is said they also eat carrion.
How to care for this bird is quite difficult because you have to pay attention to several things, such as preparing a large cage with a perch, then placing the cage in a shady place, and making sure to keep the cage clean. Feed every 2 (two) times a day, if the owls have entered the age of 3 (three) months they can be fed with crickets. Bathe once a week by spraying water or putting water in a bath container.
